Content Marketing: How to Never Run Out of Ideas

Coming up with content ideas is a common challenge for businesses. After all, you want to produce content that will not only be interesting to your target audience but will also be engaging enough to get them to take action. Whether you’re just starting out with content marketing or you’ve been at it for a while, here are four strategies for developing content ideas that will engage your audience.

1. Identify Your Target audience

The first step is to identify your target audience. What are their interests? What challenges do they face? What sort of information are they looking for? Once you understand your target audience, you’ll be in a much better position to come up with content ideas that will resonate with them.

2. Keep a Running List of Ideas

You never know when inspiration will strike, so it’s important to have a running list of content ideas. This could be in the form of a Google doc, Evernote file, or even a physical notebook that you always keep. Add it to the list whenever you think of an idea, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. You can always come back and flesh it out later on.

3. Repurpose Old Content

If you’re struggling to develop new ideas, consider repurposing old content. For example, if you have an old blog post that’s been gathering dust, breathe new life into it by turning it into an infographic or short video. If you have a whitepaper or e-book, consider extracting the key points and turning them into a blog post or series of blog posts. There’s no shame in repurposing old content – just make sure that it’s still relevant and valuable to your target audience.

4. Use Content Prompts

Sometimes, even the best brainstorming session won’t yield any good ideas. When this happens, don’t force it – instead, try using content prompts. A quick Google search will yield plenty of results, but here are a few examples to get you started: “10 ways to [solve a common problem],” “X steps to [achieving a goal],” and “How to [do something].” Fill in the blanks and see what sort of ideas come to mind.
There’s no denying that coming up with fresh content ideas can be challenging – but it doesn’t have to be impossible. By following the strategies outlined above, you’ll be well on your way to generating ideas that will engage and delight your target audience time and time again.
